Description
NoteTaker™ for OS X, first introduced in 2002, is a third generation information processor for individuals. NoteTaker combines the power of the built-in outliner with a visually rich notebook interface for organizing information and creating personal notebooks.
NoteTaker is foremost a personal note and idea organizer. You can make a list, create an outline or jot down an idea. But NoteTaker scales with your needs, enabling you to add, change, and organize your information as needed, no matter what form it takes - lists, outlines, paragraphs of rich text, audio, video, or even embedded live web content and flash animation, from one page to hundreds of pages.
NoteTaker's visual metaphor is a rich "spiral" notebook pages with section tabs. You can create your own custom notebooks, from basic outlines and checklists to complex reports and project binders.
Use it to communicate ideas. Organize personal information for fast retrieval. Keep a project or daily journal. Take notes in meetings and record synchronized audio lectures. Browse and clip web information to your notebook. Create a project plan or syllabus. Write a book! Used by thousands of individuals, students, teachers and other professionals worldwide, NoteTaker is software you'll use every single day.
NoteTaker now includes personal real-time sharing, a feature previously exclusive to AquaMinds NoteShare™. Instantly share a notebook, in a few easy clicks, with family members on other Macs at home, or read your shared notebooks from your iPhone or iPad while at home or on the road using NoteShare Mobile Viewer.

• Removed unneeded files that could interfere with updating the app from an earlier version using the App Store.
• NoteTaker 2.7 introduces limited real-time sharing, a feature previously exclusive to NoteShare. With NoteTaker 2.7 you can instantly share a personal notebook in just a few easy clicks. Share notebooks with family members on other Macs at home, or read your shared notebooks from your iPhone or iPad while connected at home or on the road using NoteShare Mobile Viewer.
• NoteTaker sharing supports up to five concurrent connections from other copies of NoteTaker, NoteShare, or NoteShare Mobile Viewer. Users on these connections can open any number of notebooks, and all six users (the notebook’s owner and the users on the five remote connections) can work on the same notebook simultaneously.
• The new full screen mode in OS X 10.7 "Lion" is now supported when running in 10.7.
• You can now import both RTF and RTFD files into a notebook with the File>Import command.

• Some sharing-related menu items have been reorganized or simplified.

• Some issues relating to interaction with NoteShare Server Pro have been fixed.

Awesomeness...
I have Circus Ponies' Notebook and I just kept wishing something would come along that would actually work, and by that i mean that it would actually have some notion of being a smart app. The Circus Ponies app would often shut off when recording audio lectures in class on a brand new 2011 MacBook Pro. Not only that, but it just felt clunky and stupid. For all the hype, it seemed too limiting. Then, I found this app. I only purchased it because I had $100 credit to spend in the app store, a nice gift from Apple for buying my Mac. This app allows for surfing the web within the app which is neat. You can import any type of document, url, video, etc., and, of course, you can record your audio notes. And trust me when I say it records smoothly. I actually recorded most of a four hour class with the largest recorded section being appx. two hours… then the gods heard someone and we finally got a pee-break. Anyhow, this app is much smarter.
An indispensable tool for managing information
I've been using NoteTaker for 6 years, and I highly recommend it. It's the easiest yet most full-featured application for annotating software features, outlining projects, and keeping track of ongoing work. You get a lot of flexibility in formatting notes, and its management of rich media is excellent: you can easily embed graphics, audio, video, and web links.
Customer support is also first-rate. I recently had some problems upgrading to 2.7.1 in Snow Leopard due to a hard-to-find application conflict. NoteTaker customer service stuck with me until the problem was resolved.
Sorry, I wish I liked it ...
Concept is great, the notebook metaphor, of course, is appropriate. But many of the relatively standard conventions for basic manipulation of format and text do not apply here. Editing titles, changing text font for example. You highlight the text, pull up the font window, change the font size and the font doesn't change. Sure, I could have read the manual and figured it out. But it sure doesn't make a good first impression. Too bad, because I really looked forward to the capability this provided. (To show you how long I've been at this - I still have a WHOLE BUNCH of random data in ECCO Pro that I wanted to migrate to Notetaker.) I'm not worried about data migration, I just find nearly all user interface standards and convention don't apply in this application. Wish they did.
