Description
OmniOutliner starts as a blank page. But as you collect, compose, and rearrange text, its powerful outlining features emerge to organize your ideas. Hierarchy, columns, styling, notes — use them all in concert or keep things simple, depending on the project at hand. From basic lists and tables to serious writing and data wrangling, OmniOutliner understands how to keep your work structured and tidy.
Why choose OmniOutliner for iPad?
COMFORT: OmniOutliner was designed with speed and ease in mind, especially for data entry. Carefully-planned keyboard interactions and the ever-present Edit bar make it straightforward to add and rearrange items. Your ideas are what’s important — OmniOutliner just helps you get them in order.
STRUCTURE: Expand and collapse groups to concentrate on what’s important now. Use the flyout Plus buttons to put new items right where you need them. And of course, just drag items around when you need to rearrange the order. If you need to make a bigger change, use Edit mode to move or modify a bunch of rows at once.
COLUMNS: Checkboxes, formatted numbers, pop-up lists, dates… Keep track of any number of different fields in each row. If you have too many columns to see at once, you can hide some. Or just temporarily slide them underneath the main outline column to get at the ones you’re interested in. You can even sort your rows by any column, then restore their original order.
STYLES: Thanks to the included sample documents and styles, you may never need to adjust anything yourself. But if you want to, check out our custom rich-text editor, with more detailed styling than you’re likely to find anywhere else on iPad. Save your favorites as named styles, for quick and consistent styling across your document. Even chain styles together to automatically change rows based on their position in the hierarchy.
NOTES: Inline notes make it easy to keep track of ideas for future revisions, ancillary content, reviewers’ comments, ill-considered notions, snide jokes, and other miscellaneous info. You can attach notes to any row in a document, and show or hide them individually or en masse. And of course, notes can be styled just as precisely as the main content.
LINKS & ATTACHMENTS: Web addresses you type automatically get linkified. And any image you can copy and paste, from tiny embellishments to sketches from a drawing app to full-sized photos, can be placed right in your outline.
SHARING: OmniOutliner has no shortage of ways to share your documents. Import and export via iDisk, WebDAV, or email, in several formats: OmniOutliner (compatible with OmniOutliner 3 for Mac), OPML (compatible with other outlining applications), HTML, or good old-fashioned plain text. You can even choose a dynamic HTML export with expandable and collapsible groups.
SUPPORT: If you have any feedback or questions, we'd love to hear from you! The Omni Group offers free tech support: you can reach us by email at omnioutliner@omnigroup.com, by phone at 1-800-315-6664 or +1-206-523-4152, or on twitter at @omnioutliner.

What's New in Version 1.2.1
OmniOutliner 1.2.1 for iPad fixes a handful of bugs and adds support for Retina displays.
Features
• Support for Retina displays has been added along with high-resolution versions of the image resources.
Bug Fixes
• Emailing with the Simple HTML option should once again embed the HTML into the email body when possible, for everyone.
• Pasting or deleting rows could cause a crash under certain circumstances. This has been resolved.
• The Clear custom style button should always function properly now.
• Background colors applied through a named style should once again correctly be removed when the named style is unapplied.
• Exiting to the document picker while the text style inspector is open during text editing will no longer cause a crash.
• The text loupe will properly appear above the inspectors in input fields.
—————
OmniOutliner 1.2 for iPad set the stage for document syncing by introducing a new document browser and making a number of behind-the-scenes changes to coordinate access to documents. It also introduced a new app icon, and restored the ability to open attached OmniOutliner 3 files from Mail. (This release requires iOS 5.)
Features
• The document picker has been redesigned to allow quicker access to files and easier file management. Tap on the edit button and select a file(s) to access the sharing, duplicate, and delete options.
• OmniOutliner for iPad now has a new icon.
• Sample documents can now be restored using the 'Restore Sample Document' option in the import menu.
• Previews will now appear in the document picker for any file type that OmniOutliner can open.
Bug Fixes
• OO3 files sent via email can now be imported again.
• Zip files are now accepted and uncompressed by the app to accommodate importing files from Mail. An alert will appear if the uncompressed file is not of a type that can be handled by the app.
• 'Send to App' now only appears as an option when there are apps available to accept one of the file types.
• WebDAV text fields are now easier to tap into.
• Fixed a crash that could occur due to accessing the color palettes through both popovers.
• When scrolling a document horizontally, there is now a bounce animation when the bounds of the view are reached.
• Document titles in the toolbar are now properly centered.
• Activity indicator will change color based on the document's background color to make it more visible.
• Button labels in edit mode can no longer overlap the icon when the language is set to German.
• An alert will appear if you are attempting to rename a file the same as an existing file instead of automatically appending a number to the file name.

Essentially useless without better file transport options
I LOVE this app's features, as well as the Mac version, but it's essentially useless without a quality solution for moving files in and out of the app. I'm not putting my sensitive project information on Omni's webdav server (they admit it's just a Mac Mini in their office), and even if I would, the steps to make the roundtrip work are mind-numbing. I've given up on all Omni apps except OmniGraffle, after investing lots in them, because sync and file portability continues to be unbearable, after years of promises to make a useable system. Dropbox, iCloud, google, I don't care, just pick one and make it work!
Good, but currently limited
As a new user to OmniOutliner I'm still learning the ropes. Here's my feedback of what I (as a novice user) feel is missing.
1.) More export options - The ability to export to PDF is one of my biggest wants!
2.) Sync capability - iCloud, DropBox, pick one!
3.) Attachments - Definitely not an easy fix for the iPad version, but I'd love to have it all the same.
4.) Ability to show/hide row/column grid lines.
5.) AirPrint!
6.) Universal App - iPhone 4s NEEDS this.
Don't let these few things keep you from buying though. OmniOutliner is a solid app. It's just not fully fleshed out yet (and it won't be until OmniOutline for Mac 4.0 hits the streets first).
Good!
1. It's really important to have an option to print outlines from iPad (airPrint)
2. How about iPhone version?
3. Needed normal sync between Mac and iOS apps.
4. List texture, I can't really see it on retina screen.
