After months I finally decided to upgrade!
Reading gsome reviews of previous versions I was hesitant to upgrade. Coming from Snow Lepord I was missing out on using all the features of iCloud and the new plus's of Lion. Once reading the reviews today of this newest version I decide to go for it as all the bugs seemed to be worked out. Pulled the trigger and everything went excellent. Transition was flawless. Lion has a ton of features and im glad I upgraded. Speach recognition, launchpad, mission control, tap dictionary, FaceTime all included just to name a few cool things.
Worth the upgrade!
Finally Upgraded to Lion
After months of looking at the reviews of everyone have a terrible time with Lion, I decided I would finally take the plunge. I was pretty nervous since at least one thing seemed to be a deal breaker for almost everyone. So here was my experience:
Download - Pretty quick. I think it downloaded and installed in about an hour and fifteen minutes. Self explanatory download and install. Only had to make about 3 or 4 selections as to preferences.
Opening Lion for the 1st Time - Once the computer restarted I was a little nervous to look at see what had been done to my 2011 15" Macbook Pro. I tried to open finder just to see if it was as bad as everyone said and it took a second for everything to change over to the new format. After an initial beach ball twirl that lasted what felt like 2 minutes, everything opened smoothly. This seemed like it was common when I opened a few other applications. A slight delay than everything was running smoothly.
After Exploring Lion - Some of the things that stood out to me. I love the integration of iCloud. You can really customize the experience that you have with all of your Mac products. I have an iPhone, iPad, and Macbook Pro. Everything is working together very well. While some complained about the change to the finder, I think that it is definitely an upgrade. Finder is very easy to use. I am able to find files and although it looks much different than the old finder, it might actually be easier to find recent files and older files. After a few minutes on Safari and Chrome I realized that I wasn't very good at the new scrolling. I kept going in the opposite direction, but now it all makes sense and I love the new scrolling. It is very self explanatory and actually makes more sense to scroll this way, rather than the old way. It is just like what it is on the iPhone and iPad now. Another thing that I have come to enjoy a lot are the flipping through web pages to the side. It is so much easier to do that than hit the back button. Also like the ease of getting to mission control and the dock apps. No problems with all of the Adobe Creative Suite 5 programs or MS Office for Mac.
Overall I think this is definitely an upgrade over Snow Leopard. I can't wait to explore it further.
Finally did it !!
Like other reviewers I was extremely reluctant to upgrade to lion as snow leopard was working perfectly, and I do not use a track pad or magic mouse so the only reason I needed lion was to keep my many .mac/.me accounts. Had it not been for the mail accounts I would have never upgraded as all the discussions seemed very negative and bugs everywhere. After doing a time machine backup and software update I decided to give it a try yesterday. Well as usual Apple delivered flawlessly. Download and installation took less than 1 hr and all my e-mail accounts were seamlessly installed and I was prompted to switch to iCloud which also was perfect, and even though I did not need any of these features Iam learning to love this OS. When I checked my gmail account today mail even asked if I wanted to install it in mail. Enter account email and password and now my gmail account is even in mail. Also feared a big slowdown as I have minimum requirement iMac, but none at all, actually it seems a little quicker. Overall for me it was great experience, the knots in my stomach were replaced with complete joy. Thank You.
