Customer Reviews
Keeps me playing!
Great app! Doesn't describe it...
I'm forty something, have been trying to teach my self for a couple of years on and off. Mostly off because it's hard to prioritize playing guitar at my age with so much else going on, especially if you're not improving.
I have tried several self taught programs which have all had some value, but with no interactivity there is nothing to stop you from developing bad habits which in turn stops your progress.
This app has a simple intuitive Game like UI (great for younger players) which keeps me coming back. The backing track takes boring exercises and keeps them interesting because I'm actually playing to music and best of all it's interactive! It listens to my playing, so if I'm off tune or miss a beat I see it immediately and can correct it. The loop mode is especially useful for this.
It helps with my accuracy which leads to smoothness, and speed is the byproduct of accuracy. As with most beginners its takes a lot of my concentration to not look at the neck to see where my fingers are which makes playing slow and choppy. By having to watch the screen, at least until you learn the rhythm, it pushes you to learn the string and frets positions of the neck a lot quicker. You can't get this from a video lesson or a book.
After Completing a few lessons a day, I move onto a song to finish it up and feel a real since of accomplishment and see my self using this app for years to come.
As for cost? You can get started with all of their lessons and a few songs for about the cost of one quality private lesson. This would cost hundreds more to receive the same content If you where paying for private lessons. I know this to be fact as I have paid for my daughters lessons, then she lost interest!
So if you're happy playing to that boring metronome, don't buy this app. But if you want have fun while you learn, you won't be disappointed.
Two thumbs up!
Incredible
Convenient, effective, and fun. I'm a beginner but I've definitely seen improvement and the game like quality makes it that much easier to practice.
Keeps me coming back
Out of the "millions" of apps on the app store, how many do you have on your phone and how many of those do you use everyday? This app keeps me coming back to it, and more importantly playing my guitar. You can tell the developer put a lot of work into the software and money into licensing real band content. Is it perfect? Not yet, but it is a lot of fun and totally worth the time and reasonable amount of money for content. Plus playing with actual backing tracks and singers is a blast and really forces you to keep playing if you make a mistake; something playing from a TAB can't do.
The sound quality is great. The instrument note recognition is good. I would ask for some more beginner content and another level between Easy and Medium in the songs to help the beginner/intermediate player.
