ScanAvert is a subscription based service for $1.99 per month. After your first month, you can continue on a month by month basis, and be prompted for $1.99 payment every 30 days, or opt for a 6 months subscription at $9.99, 20% savings.
This service covers only products available in the US.
* Currently, ScanAvert has 280,000 + products, and growing, is best used in your standard supermarket chain setting. While we continue to collect and test specialty store, private label/generic, and “big box” retailer goods, we do not yet have a comprehensive list in our product database.
About ScanAvert:
Our first software was created in 2002 for Retailers to operate on their kiosks, but lacked mobility and privacy. Earlier handsets were able to deliver somewhat comprehensive and timely results, but not barcode reader reliability. Finally, technological advancements have yielded the platform we require for the application we envisioned so many years ago.

Great!
So far I've found this app to be 98% reliable. It's even better than the awesome "Is that gluten free" app since it's just a quick scan and 3 sec later we know if it's ok for celiacs and so many other diseases/allergies. Itemizes what specific ingredient is not allowed is great. Even offers alternatives so we can quickly buy things that are allowed? So great!
I do wish the whole subscription fee would be at the very top or maybe itunes could put "$1.99 PER MONTH" instead of just saying the usual $1.99 but I take responsibility for not reading the whole summary section. This app is so great it's still worth the price but if the price doesn't go down I won't keep it very long. :(

Love love love this app! As a newly diagnosed celiac, I needed all the help I could get. This app was one of my first GF app buys, and I use it all the time! I only use it if a product isn't clearly labeled and I want to make sure. So far fantastic, I use it less now that I am more comfortable with labels but it is still my number one go to app!!
