Needs tabs

Bring backed the one window interface with TABS!!!!! FAIL.

For me, line numbers remain a problem…

(Feb 06, 2011) Version 4.1.1 - Ok so while some of the other issues might have been cleared up, I still seem to have my initial problem of line numbers not properly displaying along the side of the document. Maybe this will be helpful to the developer. I use Monaco font (pretty standard in my opionion for coders) size 13. If you use this font on any system (and I tried on probably about a dozen of different machines, because it was driving me insane) code starts to misalign and shifts towards the top of the line really making it impossible to figure out where you're located. I use this specific font because not only it ships with every Mac, but it is also easy to read and almost without thinking you know what symbol you're dealing with O/0/I/l are so different that it helps quite a bit. I have worked in a number of studios and with every single one of them I almost find a group of people using Monaco font for almost about anything… I like it so much that now all of my customizable apps use that font. I just don't understand why that specific font (among few others I tried) suddenly started misaligning… it wasn't as much of an issue before.

As for tabs. I've grown to enjoy coding and focusing on one document at a time, and when in need enjoy a good side by side… so I am slowly becoming less and less irritated of not having the tabs. I'm sure this is only because the tabs are gone now, if the tabs were still available I'd sure use them.

I really want to love Smultron, but can't quite do so yet.

(Dec 14, 2011) Version 4.1 I really don't understand what's stopping the developer from fixing things that are crucial to working with a text editor. I am starting to regret the purchase of both version of Smultron. The lines numbers in the gutter are misaligned. It is impossible to use this app for anything other than a simple note taking… if you code and rely on line numbers to help you identify syntax issues…. well, good luck! Nothing alligns, I can't even begin to tell you how frustrating this is. Why can't the line numbers match the font size used in the main window? I tried playing around with resizing fonts and selecting different ones, but nothing seems to fix this. Please fix one of the most crucial and basic items that is line gutter/line numbers… Stop adding new features which result in more bugs, and fix what's broken first

(Aug 01, 2011) One step forward, two steps back… hey at least it's steps instead of being completely abandoned. I have still the same problem when it comes to line numbers. I happen to deal with files that are longer than 1000 lines of code/text… there is a hit and miss when it comes to opening those and having the line numbers displayed properly. Because the gutter is predefined by the developer documents with more than 999 lines of code/text wrap and it's impossible to know which line you're working on… at times I open and close the document multiple times to see the line numbers displayed properly. Perhaps giving us users an option that was taken away with defining the gutter/line number space size could fix the problem? Or if developer knows how auto adjusting the line number space based on need would be better. This is a huge issue because you can't collaborate with others on projects, or even make your own comments because often the line numbers are shifted.

At times syntax coloring isn't recognized even for previously worked on documents, it simply goes back to just being all black… I don't have any custom sytax colors loaded I use all developer defined. This doesn't happen all the time, but it happens enough to be irritating. This is kind of a biggie since I don't think I'm the only who uses syntax coloring.

Autosaving is nice, but now external applications don't recognize the changes one makes even though you press CMD+S… this was working beautifully in previous versions, now I have to get out of the document and relaunch it to see changes. Maybe this is due to the versions introducted by Lion, but it seems that no matter what I select Auto-save or not, I still have the same problem. This would be nice if it came back working as it was before.

Version 4.0.1 on July 27, 2011 - Developer abandoned one buggy version, to release a new buggy version… (1 star rating)

Ugh, where to begin? I know that the cost of having to buy two versions of Smultron isn't gonna break my bank, but the fact that the developer just abandoned the previous version without addressing the bugs just to release a version 4 with those same issues plus a new set of bugs gets me a little upset. I am still having issues with the previous version and Lion, well to be honest there were problems under Snow Leopard as well… but I thought the new release, even though with costs not justified in my opinion (after all the other version is rendered unreliable) would fix the issues. I was wrong.

Smultron has always been the "cheap" solution to text editing, but it never had the magnitude of issues it now has… perhaps these days "cheap" means unresolved bugs, AWOL developers, and a promise of a better version in the future at additional cost to the consumer. I really hope that Smultron 4 doesn't end up where the previous version is… abandoned.

I am all for supporting developers and their products and giving a fair review. Please start addressing issues in order for the rating to improve.

smultron three was better

prefered verything being in one window with the option of separating the windows.

Having everything permanately in their own windows is bothersome.
