Comprehensive secure password management

As a software engineer, I'm very familiar with database applications, and SplashID is among the best and most trusted out there. I've used SplashID for years on Mac and PC desktops, on Treos, on Windows Mobile and BlackBerry devices, and even on some Nokia phones. I've recommended it to clients. I've even set up some small offices with it.

The new iPhone version is the best looking version by far, and the wireless sync to my Mac has worked like a charm right out the box.

Now to my favorite part: commenting on some of the ridiculous uninformed comments by other reviewers.

Compatibility: On the desktop side, it's XP/Vista for the PC and OS X 10.5 for the Mac. You 10.4 Tiger people, SplashData has already announced they will be supporting you within days, so quit your whining and one star reviews.

Pricing: $9.99 for the iPhone client, which will work standalone just fine. If you want the separate desktop software, yes, you need to pay $19.95 separately. Good news for existing users, though -- the desktop software upgrade for you is free.

Sync: Works perfectly for me, but no I'm not surprised that some people had some issues. Sync is wicked hard from an engineering standpoint, but SplashData is the best around at it. They will fix any issues, trust me. But hey, the desktop version is a 30-day free trial. So see if it works on your setup before you buy it. If not, try their support, which tends to be very good, or their forum, which is excellent.

Competitors: No, dear "reviewers" pimping other firms, I'd really rather not try your random password manager brand x instead. You go right ahead with that, but I'll stick with the company that's been doing this for 10 years and has 500,000 loyal users. Good luck to you, though.

The Cadillac of Password Protection Apps

I have been a SplashID for Palm user for many, many years. I am currently storing more than 550 records of confidential passwords, login IDs, and the like in my SplashID database. SplashID is the one reason I have continued to lug around my old Palm computer in the year since I purchased the first generation iPhone. SplashID has finally been ported to the iPhone and--although there were a few initial glitches due to the familiar inability of this and all developers to adequately beta test their apps--the SplashData folks have worked around the clock to resolve all problems and it is now working flawlessly for me. Please disregard early reviews pointing out--correctly--that there were problems with syncing. These are true statements, but the problems have now been fully resolved.

Why this app, rather than any one of the competitors?

1. Your passwords and other confidential information are kept secure and encrypted on your own iPhone and desktop; there is NO uploading of confidential data to the web. I would never consider ANY program for protecting confidential data that required sending that data to the web.

2. You can enter the information on the desktop, rather than on the iPhone. Thus, for example, long URL sequences, login strings, and the like can be easily and quickly entered into SplashID on the desktop through cutting and pasting. I cannot imagine entering sequences like serial numbers, passwords, and URLs on the iPhone. That would be a nightmare. Any app that requires you to do that is not in the same class as SplashID.

3. The desktop version has great power in its own right. It is elegantly designed to make it possible for you to enter serial numbers, passwords, URLs, login sequences, credit card numbers, and so forth, by clicking once on a "clipboard" icon in SplashID and then pasting in the appropriate location in the relevant program (for example, in a web browser when logging into your bank account, or when entering your credit card information for an on-line purchase).

4. Your desktop and iPhone copies of your confidential data may be easily and regularly synched over your home wireless network.

Suppose you purchase a new printer, for example, and want to enter serial number, date of purchase, warranty information, web address, and login sequence for the vendor's support forum, into SplashID. You can simply cut and paste such info into SplashID on the desktop, sync with the iPhone, and you're good to go. Or your work IT department demands that you change your password every X months. Okay. Go ahead and change it. Enter the new password into your SplashID record on the desktop, sync with the iPhone, and both platforms are up to date.

When you are comparing competitor apps with SplashID, I urge you to consider these four critical strengths of SplashID. Does the competitor have all four of these features? I also encourage you to consider that SplashData has been making rock-solid, reliable apps for many years. Finally, their customer service is superb. It is absolutely true that the initial rollout of the SplashID app for the iPhone was rocky. I was not surprised, because SplashID is a complex program providing for an innovative syncing between the iPhone and desktop. It definitely needed beta testing, and the SplashID engineers knew it. The initial glitches justify the early tentative and even negative reviews on this site. But the current program is stable, elegant, and extremely user friendly.

Look no further. SplashID is the one.

Very disapointing

I really love this app. The organization is excellent and it syncs flawless with a desktop. BUT after paying the 10 bucks for this and downloading the desktop software I find out that you can only sync a single computer with it. Great that would have been really good info to know before buying software for the sole purpose of syncing it with my phone and 3 other computers.

The desktop ui is perfect along with the app but it fails to do the one thing I needed it to. I'm on to ewallet now. The ui on the desktop isn't as good but at least it syncs with more then one pc. In a world of cloud servers and other competing apps it's just ridiculous that it doesn't sync with more then one pc
