Description

Storyist is a powerful writing environment for iPad that lets you create, review, and revise your work wherever inspiration strikes.

With Storyist, you can:

• Produce submission-ready manuscripts and screenplays. Storyist provides a rich text editor with support for comments, images, headers, footers, and style sheets so you can create properly formatted manuscripts and screenplays. And Storyist comes with manuscript and screenplay templates so you can focus on the writing, not the formatting.

• Work with your story at a high-level. Storyist lets you sketch out a story using index cards and then refine it with customizable plot, character, and setting sheets. When you're ready to put words on the page, Storyist can even display your index cards next to your manuscript as you write.

• Review and revise on the go. Have a few minutes? Open Storyist and jot down a note, revise a few paragraphs, or annotate your manuscript with ideas for future changes.

• Keep all your writing organized and accessible. Storyist organizes your novel manuscripts, screenplays, notes, and other project-related writing so you can access them with just a few taps. And the one-tap Dropbox sync lets you quickly access your projects where and when you need them.

Love It

New writer. Had originally started using Word to write and Excel to keep track of Characters and relationships. I Pulled in the text my current book from dropbox, then inserted Chapters and Sections. It took one evening to do this, but well worth it. Now when I want to go back and review a certain section of the story, I can find it easily because I the notecard view shows a brief description of what happens in that particular section (I update the cards as I add new sections).

I love the fact that I can create character sheets to keep track of them, but I still go back to my spreadsheet sometimes because I can view the relationships more quickly. It may just be a habit, so I will work on giving this feature a fair chance. Judging from prior reviews, everyone else seems to love it.

My one and only complaint is that words not recognized by the spellchecker remain underlined in red, with no option to add the word to the dictionary. However, it is possible that I just don't know how to add to the dictionary yet.

I love the program on my Ipad with a bluetooth keyboard. I can write whenever I have a few minutes, and sync as I go. My work is saved on the Ipad and then synced on Dropbox.

I've not experienced any crashing or bugs referred to in a previous review. I think it is well worth the money.

Fantastic Writing App!

I have written short stories and novels in Word, Pages, and yWriter5 (which is actually a nice software package), but Storyist is far and away the best writing tool I have ever used. Wonderfully organized, easy to use!

Love it

It's the best writing app I've found so far. I love the cork board option, and it's super easy to type in without any funky auto format to fight with.

Here's why I won't give it 5 stars-
1) export to rtf (email) exports a corrupt file. It appears as funky symbols, not text on computers.

2) it's almost impossible to select a large body of text, i.e. anything bigger than the screen. It's mostly not a problem except when I want to share a section with someone or cut/copy/ what have you for whatever other reason. It keeps coming up, and it's irritating. Tried exporting as rtf, and got a corrupt file.

3) Dropbox integration is great, but basically only a backup unless you have storyist on your computer. I'm a pc user, and there is no storyist for pc. I do like that you can export rtf and txt to Dropbox as well for individual files, but I'd like the option to do that with entire story folders so I can access my notes on my pc.

4) the character sheets are basically useless with Pre-filled forms. Please get rid of "hair color," "height," etc., and just let us fill in our own categories. I love the idea, but I want to be able to describe my characters my way. Blank options would male these files great.

5) when creating sections and chapters on the cork board, it doesn't matter where I'm working, it always adds to the bottom. I have a lot of cards on there, and dragging them all the way back up to where I'm working gets frustrating. Adding them through the outline view works fine, but it's so nice to be able to see things on the cork board that I really wish it would add new ones to where I'm currently working.

6) it would be amazing to be able to export the note cards as an rtf or txt outline (like IndexCard does). Asking for some kind of compatibility between IndexCard and Storyist is probably asking the impossible, but at least being able to export or import an rtf or txt outline would be fantastic. Honestly, sometimes IndexCard's cork board is just easier to use, but it's a pain going back and forth between the two once I've made my cards.

Fix 1-5 and at least give me an export option for my cards, and this app will get a 5/5 from me.
