Well i've known strikers 1945 for years. so what else to say about this game? I'm just glad now i can play this game on iPhone.
Terrible port.
When I saw this game in the App. Store, I was elated -- it has always been one of my favorite shooters. I was hesitant at first, wondering how good a job they could possibly have done of bringing such a hectic shooting experience to the iPhone/iPod, but I decided to snag it when the price dropped from five dollars to three.
My prior hesitance proved to be well-founded.
The first thing I noticed during gameplay was how sloppy the controls felt. The virtual d-pad used to control your ship never feels right whether you're tapping a direction or trying (in vain) to slide your thumb across its surface. You end up going everywhere except where you want to go. Touching anywhere on the screen for movement (like most other games of this genre) would have been much more palatable.
Another thing I was alerted to was the HUGE amount of animations they cut from this game. It really is comical watching the normally superbly-animated sprites shake back and forth (or stay altogether still) where there would originally have been the illusion of actual MOVEMENT. I laughed out loud when I saw how shoddy the first boss was -- they literally cut everything except a few frames.
To top all of this off, the midi arrangements of the game's songs are cheap and uninspired.
The implementation of the Survival Mode would have been a great idea had the game actually been playable.
Honestly, I don't think releasing Strikers in this format (without a major overhaul to make it compatible with these touch devices) was a good idea...too much was cut, and the gameplay suffers for it. As a straight port, it simply does not work and is no fun to play.
There are too many good shooters available for download to waste your time or money with this one. I own Buster Red, Techno Trancer and Space Invaders: Infinity Gene, each of which was tailored for these platforms and is superior to Strikers.
To put it bluntly: this is a hack job at BEST and should be avoided -- ESPECIALLY for those of you who enjoyed this game in previous releases.
