Great App, Questionable Implementation
WARNING: If you do want to try this out for 30 days, make sure you install it on the device (iPhone or iPad) that you really want to test it out on, because once your trial period has started you can't install this app and use it on any other device that syncs with the same MobileMe account. REVIEW:
OK, I agree with everyone else, the content here is really good. It's like a selection of audiobooks for kids ranging from a couple of minutes in length up to the 4 hour 35 minute "How to Train Your Dragon" piece. There's a "New and Different" category, so it looks like the programmers are continuing to add content, which is great for a subscription program.
Here's where I have a problem: The pricing and availability. The first 30 days are free to try it out, then it's $25/year to subscribe. That feels a bit steep to me, but whatever. However, that pricing is $25 per DEVICE! Yes, you need to buy a subscription for your iPhone. Another one for your iPad (you can't even download the trial on a 2nd device -- the app won't play). You need yet another paid subscription for your wife's/husband's phone, or for the kid's phone if they are old enough to have a phone.
That seems way out of line to me. Come on, the subscription is tracked by the MobileMe account, so anything synced with that account should be allowed to play the content. Apple lets you buy an App once and install it on all your devices synced trough by the purchasing MobileMe account. Zinio even lets me read my magazines on my phone, my iPad, even my computer. It's simple (and expected): I buy a subscription and I read it wherever I want. I don't buy the same magazine for each of my devices, and I don't feel I should be buying a subscription to kid's stories for each device either.
The audio is better on the iPad, and it's great for bedtime storytelling. The iPhone streaming works like a charm when out and about. Add the fact that families have multiple phones these days and buying a separate subscription for each becomes way too pricy. Sorry, I'll pass. It's a 5 star app otherwise, and I'll gladly give back the 2 stars I'm docking for this pricing policy. Hey, $25/year per family is more than enough. Relax your hold on us a bit, OK?
A civilized and educational app.
Great idea. This works very well. I have enjoyed listening to old favorites with my son and discovering new stories. Nice job.
Free; but NOT FREE
Free for the app; just for 30 days. Screw that I've already deleted the app.
