Description
From the makers of the bestselling metronome app for iOS, Tempo Advance is aimed at the professional user. While retaining the same hyper-accurate audio engine from Tempo, the interface has been completely redesigned to put the focus on the metronome display. The core difference of Tempo Advance from Tempo is a more versatile way configuring time signature and beat patterns, which also requires more acute understanding of the domain. If you would like an easier to understand interface and/or a dedicated iPad interface, please consider Tempo instead.
Tempo Advance was designed with the iPhone' display size and multi-touch in mind. A large "virtual LEDs" display takes center stage, surrounded by controls for more frequently-used functions. Advanced options are accessible via five modal panels that appear when certain buttons are held.
Tempo Advance works in both Landscape and Portrait, with the interface for each specifically tailored to the dimensions.
Meters are represented as simply the number of beats per measure, and the number of divisions per beat. Coupled with the ability to customize every beat and sub-beat, this gives you maximum flexibility in defining the time signature you want.
Auto setlist advancement, accelerando, ritardando and bar tracking makes it possible for you to program count-ins or complex songs with varying tempo, time signatures and rhythms.

Time Signatures
- Up to 20 beats per measure
- Up to 8 subdivisions per beat
- Drag on the Meter display to set the time signature, or pinch in and out on the LEDs
Rhythm Patterns
- Configure every beat and sub-beat to one of 4 states: Accent 1, Accent 2, Regular, Silent
- Choose from 13 sound sets: Digital, Analog, Blip 1, Blip 2, Electro, Traditional, Wooden, Shaker, Claves, Tamborine, Cowbell, Rock Kit and a Pro kit for drum click tracks
- Assign any sound and option to vibrate to each of the tick states (note that iPod touch hardware does not support vibration)
- Set individual volumes for each of the tick states
- Additional Voice Counting sound set
Tempo
- Ranges from 10 to 800 BPM
- Four ways to edit tempo: tap tempo, adjustment buttons, drag and direct input via keypad

App is incredible, I use it for all my live shows. Not a fan of the font in the new update, but the program works like a charm and is easy to adapt to.
Great app, but...
I really love this app and I use it and it's "little brother app" everyday when I'm teaching my high school band. However, I would really love to see the Tempo Advance app become both an iPhone AND iPad app. I know iPhone apps work on the iPad, but I would like to see my set lists in the list format (like the tempo app) but be able to have the different subdivision pitches (like the tempo advance app). Plus, it's no fun to look at a pixelated display, which is what I have to do in order to use Tempo Advance on my iPad. Sorry for rambling, but if this was addressed, it would easily be worth 5 stars in my opinion.
Great metronome!
I think it is easy to use once you read the help section, very accurate, and can accommodate most time signatures. Could be louder for acoustic use, but I use my headphones and hear it fine.
If you are an intermediate, advanced, or pro player, this metronome is for you.
