The Three Musketeers: One for All!

Not a gamer, I purchased this because it looked cute (keep that in mind). It is! Charming, actually. The graphics are engaging and the pompous hero is a parody of himself. Play is slow enough for me to proceed several screens into the game before getting killed (which, compared to the current gore standard is actually a quite Victorian experience), and the controls are carefully explained and simple enough for me to master them, well, probably about a week from now (but very easy for skilled gamers, I suspect). Mildly daunting; exceptionally fun!

Professional quality, but this is for children

The game is beautifully illustrated, and has excellent voice and music. This is for a young person, though. Note: The player must press "X" to slash guards and kill them. There is no blood - they just disappear after three or flour slashes. Very simple to play and easy to win. An adult will be bored. At the end of each level, there is a scene in which word balloons appear one-by-one to describe the goal of the next level. The actor dramatically recites what is in the word balloons, but the balloons lag well behind the actor. This is the "flaw" that cost one star in the rating. If I had little kids in the house, they'd probably love the game.

Good Kids Game

This game is basically a cell shaded 3d platformer. The controls are simple and the game is easy to learn. The premise is that an evil baron has imprisioned the musketeers and you, Porthos, are on a quest to free them. There are cutscenes between levels where comic art with dialog ballons appears and you can read along or listen to Porthos' narration. The voice acting seems to be done by one performer and comes across like an audiobook where a story is being read to you. The levels are not very challenging and mostly involve climbing ladders, dodging arrows, and mashing the attack button until the bad guys fall. You collect coins, hearts and keys. Hearts restore your health, keys open doors, and I'm not sure what the coins are good for. The cell shaded style and artwork are nice, but the backgounds get a little busy. Simply reducing the black in the scenery, or replacing it with a dark purple or blue would greatly help. The game might be PG or even G, there is cartoon violence, but it's tame (swinging a sword at bad guys, defeated enemies disappear). I recommend this game for kids, though teenagers will probably get bored with it quickly.
