Washing Machine cleans up files created by web browsers and other programs that access the Internet.
Washing Machine can clean five types of items: Bookmarks, Caches, Cookies, Download Histories, and Browsing Histories. It works with most web browsers, and many utilities or other programs that store information without your awareness. It even cleans up after some programs that you would never think are storing data.
When you surf the web, or use other programs that access the Internet, these programs record where you go and what pages you browse. Your web browser and other programs also store information about you and your browsing in "cookie" files. And many programs store temporary files in "cache" folders that can take up space and slow down your browsing.
Many of these files contain personal information that can be seen by others who use your Mac, or by hackers who gain access to your computer. Washing Machine helps manage this information, preventing others from seeing what you've been doing, and keeping your hard disk spick-and-span. "Clean" should be defined
I'm a software engineer that does a LOT of web development. So, when I saw this I thought it would be really really useful to assist with cleaning up various browser items with the bonus of non-browser features too. However, when I used the bookmark cleaning, I assumed that clean meant de-dupe. I was very, very wrong with this assumption. Fortunately, I was able to resync from mobile me back to my duplicated state.
For everything else the app seems to work really well, I would really have preferred to give 3.5 stars.
its great, but...
This App is ok and would be 5 stars if it worked all the time, so far its freezes up when trying to clear cache in Firefox. Fix that issue and it will be great.
!! BEWARE !! !! BEWARE !!
I love the app store and where it is headed. I mean apps for $.99 is awesome! And a lot of times they are really great and useful apps.
This is not one of those time.
I used !! BEWARE !! as the title because this app does not let you know that "clean" favorites means DELETE all your favorites.
I was a little leary so I tried it on a version of FireFox that i didn't really care to much about the bookmarks. i use mainly Safari and Chrome.
It deleted ALL the bookmarks except curiously the "Most visited" was not deleted. So it deleted the bookmarks i use and left the ones that could/should be deleted?!?!
** Bt default when you run this program it is set to delete everything it can which is all browsers data, caches, etc.
So…
!! BEWARE !!
To the developer: A little more info and having nothing selected instead of everything selected would be a good idea. And when selecting an option letting them know that "clean" means deleting everything including all the years of very hard to come by favorites we truly want.
