About WQXR
Broadcasting from downtown Manhattan for 75 years, WQXR is uniquely positioned within the world of Classical music and Opera as a cultural institution of New York City. Besides broadcasting beloved Classical music cannon, Metropolitan Opera Radio Saturday Matinee Broadcasts, The Philharmonic This Week on Thursday evenings, WQXR also produces original shows such as All Ears with Terrance McKnight and Movies on the Radio hosted by David Garland. WQXR also features live performances from New York presenters such as Carnegie Hall and Lincoln Center. The app also showcases WQXR Digital's original video series such as Café Concerts, Top Five and podcasts such as Conducting Business.
Daily shows are hosted by Jeff Spurgeon in the morning, Midge Woolsey in the afternoons and Elliott Forrest during the weekend "brunch" hour. WNYC's David Garland and Terrance McKnight, formerly heard in the evenings on WNYC, host classical music in the evenings on WQXR. Naomi Lewin, the new afternoon host, joined WQXR from WGUC, Cincinnati's Classical Public Radio.
Q2
Classical WQXR is also the home of a new radio stream called “Q2”. This new online radio station features "500 Years of New Music". With a more contemporary focus than WQXR, it features large-scale festival programming as well as live concerts from venues around New York, including WNYC's new performance studio, The Jerome L. Greene Performance Space. Hosted programs include Hammered!, The New Cannon and a new composers’ show hosted by Nadia Sirota.
