About Al Petteway

In the artist’s words: Describe one of your earliest musical memories in detail. I was pretty young when my Dad bought me a set of bongos. It was an immediate love of creating rhythms that made be love those little drums. I’ve always felt that most guitarists would’ve benefited by starting with percussion and rhythm. What are your top 3 all-time favorite albums on Apple Music, and why? Why did you choose these three albums in particular? Al Petteway & Amy White, High In the Blue Ridge Al Petteway, Caledon Wood Al Petteway, Mountain Guitar Caledon Wood was one of the first projects where I got to hire some of my favorite guest musicians to help me. High in The blue Ridge was a strictly duo project and Mountain Guitar was recorded in two evenings on solo guitar. Find a song of yours on Apple Music that you love and tell us what makes it special. Tell us why you chose this song. “Sligo Creek” This tune was used in an Emmy-winning Television documentary film by Ken Burns about the National Parks. It wasn’t the only tune of mine they have used but it is certainly the most recognizable and has become a very popular selection. What’s one of the most memorable moments in your career so far? Larry Campbell (Dylan, Levon Helm) asked me to join him, John Sebastian (The Lovin’ Spoonful) and Bill Payne (Little Feat) onstage for the last songs of a show in Woodstock, NY. I’ll never forget that. Is there anything left on your bucket list as an artist or band? I’ve always wanted to meet Paul McCartney, ever since I was about eleven or twelve years old. And maybe a quick blues jam with Eric Clapton.
