About AM Radio

Attempting to reconcile experimental '60s psychedelia and the intense indie rock of the '80s, AM Radio burst onto the scene in the late '90s. Getting their start in Brooklyn, NY, they recorded their debut album in 1999 but found no outlet for its release. Sitting on the recording, they refined their sound through the next few years until Viola Records released the EP in 2002. The fluid noise rock of the track "Beeswax" caught the attention of Sonic Youth guitarist Lee Ranaldo. The following year, an L.A. band of the same name claimed rights to AM Radio, forcing the N.Y.-based pop band to change frequencies. Icewater Scandal was born by the end of 2003. ~ Bradley Torreano
