ASHES.ARE.NUTRITIOUS

Formed in January 2004 in South Amboy, NJ, and later based out of nearby East Brunswick, progressive post-hardcore unit ashes.are.nutritious grabbed much of their influence from forward-thinking acts like At the Drive-In, Refused, and the Mars Volta. The guys recorded a three-song demo that first summer together with help from co-producers Billy Graziadei and Danny Schuler of Brooklyn hardcore metal outfit Biohazard, and became known for an especially invigorating live set as they played shows in and around the area. Again working with the Biohazard guys, the group — vocalist Billy Clifton, guitarist Paul Grocz, bassist Gianni Scalise, and drummer Craig Lawlor (who is also an actor, regularly appearing on the soap opera As the World Turns from 1998-2002 as the character Adam [Hughes] Munson) — followed up in 2006 with their debut full-length, Frustration +.
