Biography

Autocreation formed in 1994 as the trio of Kevin Hector, Tara Patterson, and Mark Van Hoen (the latter of whom also records as Locust for R&S ambient sublabel Apollo). Originally recording as Sine Bubble, Autocreation are a somewhat dancefloor-friendly blend of ambient, techno, and hip-hop-esque breakbeat, and have released two singles (on Template and Op-Art) and a full-length album (on former Orb-owned ambient label Inter-Modo), as well as performing remixes for Seefeel ("Plainsong"), As One ("Mihon"), and Wallstar ("Gurnigan"). Following the release of the Mettle full-length, Van Hoen left the group to focus on his solo work, with Patterson and Hector continuing on with the name, releasing the Sauce EP on their own Template label and contributing an original track, "Justice Loop," to the second installment of Volume's Trans-Europe Express compilation series. The following year also brought the release of "Caught Short," a three-track minimalist breakbeat meditation released by Kirk DeGiorgio's celebrated Op-Art label (the title track was also included on the Op-Art label compilation Objets D'A.R.T. III). Although Autocreation remain a duo project, both Patterson and Hector have continued to work in sporadic combination with Van Hoen (both live and in the studio), with Hector contributing most recently to the latter's Last Flowers From the Darkness LP (Touch, 1997). Hector also records under the name Shanq, although to date his output under that name has included only one remix (Locust's "Your Selfish Ways" single, released by Apollo in 1997). Patterson and Hector plan a revival of their Template label in 1997, with several releases scheduled to appear.
