Biography

Barbie's Cradle formed in the Philippines from the remnants of a band named Hungry Young Poets, which featured singer and guitarist Barbie Almalbis, Franklin Benitez on drums, and bassist Ricci Gurango. After the trio had worked together as a unit for three years, and Hungry Young Poets had made its mark with the singles "Firewoman" and "Torpe," the group disbanded. Gurango proceeded to establish a band of his own, while Benitez and Almalbis remained together and founded Barbie's Cradle, enlisting Rommel Dela Cruz to play bass. Warner Music Philippines issued the band's eponymous debut in 1999. The album of a dozen tracks spawned the singles "Goodnyt," "Tabing Ilog," and "The Dance." The record company put out Music From the Buffet Table the following year. The album includes 14 numbers, one of which is a hidden track. It also includes a cover of Hotdog's "Langit Na Naman," which is sung in the Tagalog language. Barbie's Cradle's version of the song is also featured on a BMG tribute album to Hotdog.
