About Bettie Serveert

With their chiming guitars, upbeat tunes, and defenseless vocals, Dutch pop-rockers Bettie Serveert have, since the early 1990s, shined a deceptively sunny face toward the world, obscuring a gloomy fixation on doomed relationships that only becomes apparent when the lyrics are closely examined. That tension between dark and light endeared them to indie fans and made lead singer Carol van Dijk a heartthrob among indie-rockers of the late 20th century. Their popular acclaim arguably peaked with 1995's LAMPREY, but the band continued to tour and to release tuneful, interesting records through the early 2000s.
