Dave Roberts

Texas country singer and songwriter Dave Roberts made sure he was musically versatile during his college years at UNT, learning to play passably in a wide range of genres, including rock, country, jazz, and polka, among others, in order to be available for almost any type of gig that came his way in the Dallas area. When he left school to become a Marine, he also left music behind, although he knew at some point he would return to it when his active tour in the service was over — he ended up doing three combat tours before returning to Texas as a civilian. He began writing songs again — many of which reflected his experiences in the military — and began to focus on a country music career. A six-song EP called Rule No. 1, named after one of its key songs, appeared in 2009.
