About Nakia

In the artist’s words: Describe one of your earliest musical memories in detail. I'll never forget the excitement I felt listening to my parents' record collection. They a wide range of genres so it wasn't unusual to hear the voices of Otis Redding, Joe Tex, Freddy Fender, Elton John, or Diana Ross back-to-back on any given day. What are your top 3 all-time favorite albums on Apple Music, and why? Why did you choose these three albums in particular? Counting Crows, August and Everything After Kiss, Destroyer Remastered Prince & The Revolution, Purple Rain Destroyer was the 1st record I owned and is a big reason I grew up to be a musician. I wore out my Purple Rain tape. It was sexy, alien, and gripping. That 1st Counting Crows album really imprinted on me as a songwriter. It changed the way I write. Find a song of yours on Apple Music that you love and tell us what makes it special. Tell us why you chose this song. “Texas Crescent Moon” I wrote this song for my husband Robert. As of this writing we've been together over 21 years. This was my version of a sweet lullaby to him celebrating our love together. I still love to sing it to him live when I get the chance. What’s one of the most memorable moments in your career so far? I'll never forget getting to perform with The Muppets in Las Vegas. Not only did I get to sing with them, but I got to interview Miss Piggy on camera. I cried when I met Fozzie Bear. He's always been my favorite Muppet. Is there anything left on your bucket list as an artist or band? There's so many artists I want to sing songs with like Lizzo, Jason Isbell, or Eddie Vedder. I'd love to write songs with Dan Wilson, Justin Tranter, or Diane Warren. If there's ever an All-Stars season of The Voice, sign me up! That show was fun!
