Soko

About Soko

Soko's otherworldly folk-pop tones have drawn comparisons to the likes of Björk and Keren Ann. Born Stephanie Sokolinski in Bordeaux, she moved to Paris to study acting at age 17, and appeared in films including A l'Origine. In 2007, she scored a hit with "I'll Kill Her," and following a support slot on M.I.A.'s Kala tour and collaborations with the Go! Team and Cornershop, she self-released her debut EP, Not Sokute. In 2009, she announced that she was quitting the music industry, only to declare six months later that she was "reborn," resulting in 2012's I Thought I Was an Alien. The year 2015 brought My Dreams Dictate My Reality, a more rock-focused effort featuring Ariel Pink, that further showcased Soko's multi-instrumentalism. ~ Jon O'Brien
