Biography

Stereos is a Canadian band, formed in Alberta, whose originality in a diverse 2009 market is commendable. The band, who formerly went by "Stand by Me" before realizing they may face copyright woes, has been together since 2006, and is best recognized for their sound, which doesn't stick to any one genre. The band's music combines elements of hip-hop and pop, which creates a polarizing rock sound geared to the teenage masses of the new millennium. The band first found success when its members, Pat Kordyback, Miles Holmwood, Dan Johnson, Robert Chalifoux, and Aaron Verdonk, participated on the Canadian reality television program disBAND. The group's popularity following the show skyrocketed because of their unique approach to music, and their debut album became heavily anticipated. They signed with Universal Music Canada and instantly went to work on their album; working alongside names such as Gavin Brown, the Canadian rock mastermind behind Three Days Grace and Billy Talent, among others. Stereos' first single, "Summer Girl," became an instant digital success, and incredibly high sales in its first week propelled the single to number two on the Canadian Hot 100. Furthermore, the single gained a tremendous amount of radio airplay, keeping the single in the Canadian Top 20 all throughout the summer of 2009. The band's follow-up single, "Throw Ya Hands Up" was equally well received, debuting at number three on the Canadian Hot 100. With two Top Five hits under their belt, the band released their eponymous debut album on October 20, 2009.
