About The American Dollar

Post-rock/ambient music duo the American Dollar were formed in Queens, New York in 2005 by John Emanuele (drums/keyboards) and Richard Cupolo (guitars/keyboards). The duo's moody, evocative instrumental soundscapes have been used as incidental music for numerous television shows and movies, and the group has played concerts across the globe. The American Dollar's self-titled debut album, a collection of warm, melodic rock instrumentals with subtle electronic elements, was self-released by the group in 2006. Slightly mellower follow-up The Technicolour Sleep arrived the following year. The more cinematic A Memory Stream, released on the group's own Yesh Music label, was released in 2008. Ambient One, the group's first release of beatless versions of its material, came in 2009, and the group closed out the year with a split EP with electronic duo Arms & Sleepers. The duo's fourth studio album, the more electronic, beat-heavy Atlas, arrived on New Year's Day of 2010. Later in the year, the American Dollar released their first concert recording, Live in Brooklyn, as well as Ambient Two. Fifth proper album Awake in the City was released in 2012, followed by Ambient Three. In December of 2014, the duo announced plans to record its sixth full-length album. ~ Paul Simpson
