About The Persuasions

Formed in the early 1960s in Bed-Stuy, Brooklyn, vocal group the Persuasions continued the doo-wop tradition despite prevalent trends elsewhere. Having recorded for Minit Records in '65, the Persuasions gained prominence four years later with ACAPELLA, a part live/part studio album released on Frank Zappa’s Straight label. Their unadorned voices were later heard on several superb collections, while the group also supplied harmonies for artists such as Liza Minnelli, Paul Simon, Stevie Wonder, and Joni Mitchell. In the new millennium they made several adventurous albums that focussed on one artist's oeuvre at a time, including Zappa's and the Grateful Dead's.
