About The Sound of Arrows

The Sound of Arrows are a Swedish indie pop duo whose danceable, computerized sweetness has roots in synth pop of the '80s, but also much in common with the Swedish indie pop of the 2000's. The project came together in the winter of 2006 when friends Stefan Storm (formerly of Panache) and Oskar Gullstrand set out to make a Christmas song. Finishing the song about six months later (they allegedly weren't very good with computers at that point), Storm and Gullstrand set out to put together more songs. One of those tracks, "Narrow Escape," piqued the attention of Labrador Records, who released the Sound of Arrows' debut EP, Danger!, in the spring of 2008. The band released more singles for Labrador in 2009 ("M.A.G.I.C." and "Into the Clouds") before hopping over to Geffen and releasing the "Nova" single in early 2011. In between times, the duo kept busy recording and also doing remixes for artists like Club 8, Nicole Scherzinger, and Lady Gaga. After releasing another single in the summer of 2011 (a reissue of "M.A.G.I.C."), their first album, Voyage, surfaced in November. It featured production from Richard X on a number of tracks and was released by the Skies Above label. In 2012, the duo remixed tracks by Alphabeat and Royal Teeth, then went silent. It wasn't until 2017 that they released anything new, the "Beautiful Life" single. The duo soon followed it with their second album, Stay Free, a more '90s dance pop-influenced record that featured guest appearances by Annie and Niki & the Dove. ~ Tim Sendra
