Biography
George Guildford (guitar/vocals), Thom Mackie (drums), Craig Monk (guitar), and Brett Young (bass) play the tawdry, stylish indie rock sounds of the Voom Blooms. Hailing from the university town of Loughborough, the English foursome came together in 2005. Their first single, "Politics & Cigarettes," a punchy nugget featuring chiming guitars and Guildford's cockney-like drawl, made an impressionable debut later that fall. BBC's Steve Lamacq championed the song on both his Radio 1 and BBC 6 Music radio programs. The single was reissued in March 2006 on Fiction/Polydor and sold out in one week, adding to the excitement of the Voom Blooms' spot on NME's club tour. With additional show dates supporting Babyshambles and Boy Kill Boy under their belt, the Voom Blooms joined producer John Fortis (Razorlight, Art Brut, the Pipettes) in spring 2006 for a yet to be titled EP.
