Two Wounded Birds

Two Wounded Birds formed in 2008 in the isolated English seaside town of Margate. Made up of

Johnny Danger on lead guitar and vocals, Ally Blackgrove on bass, Joe Stevens on rhythm guitar and James Shand on drums, the quartet cultivated their surf-informed, punk-edged sound for a few years before attracting the attention of like-minded indie surfers The Drums. Soon the two acts were touring together and Drums member Jacob Graham went so far as to release Two Wounded Birds' 2010 EP Keep Dreaming Baby on his Holiday Records imprint. In the months following the release of the EP, the band recorded a BBC session, released two singles with Moshi Moshi Recordings and toured extensively on the festival circuit as well as opening for Black Lips and Grouplove. The band began to develop a devoted fanbase, which included an alleged personal phone call from new fan Brian Wilson to Johnny Danger to compliment his excellent sense of melody. The band's self-titled proper debut full length saw release in summer of 2012, melding influences as disparate as raw punk of the Ramones and the subtle songcraft of the Zombies.
