Publisher Description
Amaliya wakes under the forest floor, disoriented, famished and confused. She digs out of the shallow grave and realizes she is hungry... ... in a new, horrific, unimaginable way... Sating her great hunger, she discovers that she is now a vampire, the bloodthirsty creature of legend. She has no choice but to flee from her old life and travels across Texas. Her new hunger spurs her to leave a wake of death and blood behind her as she struggles with her new nature. All the while, her creator is watching. He is ancient, he is powerful, and what's worse is that he's a necromancer. He has the power to force the dead to do his bidding.
Amaliya realizes she is but a pawn in a twisted game, and her only hope for survival is to seek out one of her own kind. But if Amaliya finds another vampire, will it mean her salvation... or her death?
Customer Reviews
Frater does it again.
I am became a huge fan of Frater's Zombie novels and since I loved her writing so much I decided to give this audiobook a try. I am glad I did, I enjoyed this book as much as her zombie fiction. Frater is now on my go to list of authors when I am in the mood for horror fiction! The book is dark and sexy! There are no sparkling vampires here! Rhiannon brings back the old school vampire. The kind that can't walk in the daylight, or see their reflections, need an invitation to enter a home AND most importantly they drink the blood of humans. And they don't whine about it! No, running around national parks to feed in this book! This is a Vampire novel in the truest sense. That being said, it is important for me to state that while it is listed as Horror novel don't let that prejudice you if you are not a fan of the genre. There is really great writing here. Amaliya's journey as newbie vampire is violent, and heartbreaking. I found myself rooting for her! However, in the usual Rhiannon Frater style there is twist! It is my opinion that Rhiannon Frater is really the next "it" girl in horror. I haven't been so engrossed in horror novels since I was a teen and discovered Stephen King. Strong female leads, super scary bad guys, and great character development and superb writing.
pretty when she dies
I'm still listening to this audiobook. So far, I like it other than the reader saying "covene" when I assume she means "coven".
