Description

You can run, but eventually your past will catch up with you…

Roxann Beadleman is accustomed to living a covert life—she works menial jobs in Biloxi, Mississippi that give her enough flexibility to focus on her work with a rescue group that shepherds abused women and children to safety (outside the law). But a recent rescue went sideways and now an angry husband is after her. When she shows up to her waitressing job, a cop, Detective Joe Capistrano is waiting for her to ask questions about the rescued woman who thwarted a court order. Roxann feigns ignorance, but the detective knows she knows something about the “missing” woman. When Roxann gets home, her place has been ransacked, and the message “I’ve got your number” is on her computer screen.  She decides to get out of town, but doesn’t know where to go. When she checks her mail and sees a forwarded invitation to her cousin’s wedding in Baton Rouge, she decides it’ll do. Roxann hits the road.

It’s the happiest day of Angora Ryder’s life—she’s marrying a successful man and making her parents happy. The extravagant affair is going perfectly—until her groom changes his mind at the altar. While Angora is standing open-mouthed, wondering what to do, her cousin Roxann runs down the aisle and spirits her away. Later the women reminisce about their college days at Notre Dame; they recall a young woman who was killed in a hit and run incident on campus. They’re also bound by a dishonorable pact they made that still haunts Roxann. They find the Life Lists they made when they were coeds; both of them were infatuated with their theology professor. When Roxann realizes Det. Capistrano (and maybe the enraged husband) is on her tail, Angora suggests they hit the road to accomplish things on their Life Lists, with the Notre Dame Homecoming as their destination.

When they arrive on campus, they look up the professor who was Roxann’s first love and Angora’s first lay. The fact that he’s instantly smitten with Roxann again makes for hard feelings. But when Roxann learns some disturbing things about the professor (including he might have had something to do with the coed hit and run), she withdraws from him and encourages Angora to be careful. Angora ignores her and “buys” a date with the professor in a bachelor auction. But the next morning when the professor is found strangled with Roxann’s scarf, both women are in hot water. And Roxann suspects they set these events in motion years ago when they made their pact…that someone else obviously knows their secret.
