The saga of Raja Sulochana, who despite being a diligent student in school, and later on, as an Engineering student, is pitifully under- confident. 


The reason? He cannot speak English. The novel gives the readers a glimpse of the various travails Raja undergoes, and the different people he comes across in life.


How does Raja overcome his fear of the language? How does he fare in the various interviews that he attends?


Lady Luck favours him when he meets Lavanya, the girl of his dreams, and Prakash, a friend who stands by him throughout. Bhuvana Madam, a no-nonsense teacher, also impels him to put his best foot forward.
