Achuta ,

A tale of unfulfilled dreams

A sad irony of fate from 47 partition time to the riots in Delhi Sikh riots. The characters have been brought out beautifully . The Sikhs have been the main stay of Punjab before 47. Their uprooting of their lives from Lahore has been narrated vividly and then resettlement in Delhi has been beautifully brought out. But then Sardars I mean Sikhs are a tough lot. They generally settle themselves wonderfully everywhere in other indian states and other countries like US, Canada , UK etc. so the Sardar family settle in Delhi. A newer era unfolds in Delhi , they do well as they are hard working and spend equally on a new house . And as they prosper other events overwhelm them to decimate the established family - Arjun falling in live with an Anglo , marrying her moving over to Bangalore and finally getting killed in Mangalore - Komila their loyal daughter falling in love with a good Muslim Javed , eloping , marrying him , settling in Baroda and eventually Javed getting killed over riots with Komilla becoming insane in a jail - the Delhi riots over Indira killing events overwhelm Gurbachan and his wife stalling her into a forced stony silence in the end is a great story told in just so many pages is an excellent effort.Motilal ji continues to be a great friend till the end . An excellent effort. The ethos of the Sikhs during partition and later their suffering in Delhi riots are mind boggling . Wonder when their (Slkhs efforts ) will be applauded!!
