In addition, the clan has made many enemies over the course of their adventures. While the preface does a good job of outlining the characters and their complicated connections, the previous 14 novels covered a lot of ground that new readers will find challenging to master. Nonetheless, this is an enjoyable read in its own right, powered by evocative depictions of 1919 Egypt and the engaging voice of Amelia herself a bright, independent woman, who relishes her role as family matriarch. Her affectionate, give-and-take relationship with her Egyptologist husband, Emerson, continues to enchant. . Expect another run up bestseller lists.

The best of the series
I love all the Amelia Peabody books and enjoy reading them again every few years, Children of the Storm is undoubtably Peters’ best book of the series. It is wonderful to have all the Emerson’s and their friends together after the end of the terrible war to share an Egyptian adventure, solve a mystery, save lives, and heal relationships. I love the wit, wisdom, romance, and adventure in all of the Amelia books, but this one is special because it is about relationships, family, and love.
