The Sunny Side of the Street

“The Sunny Side of the Street” contains just two short fictional stories, full of many interesting characters. They are serious stories yet full of charm. The first story reveals a romantic view of West Indian migration to England. It tells about their optimistic; yet in a naïve way their expectations of coming to England. The story covers their courageous determination in the face of adversity. The story has a very West Indian flavor, and is a tribute to the efforts of the 'SS Empire Wind Rush' generation on arriving, and trying to make a new life in what was historically one of the poorest and run down slum areas of North Kensington, London, in England. The second story is about a Jamaican man who also came to England in 1948, and built himself a bit of a reputation in the East End of London – his story is told through the eyes of his son, ‘Denzil Boy’ Washington.
