Publisher Description

The massive destruction wreaked by the Hurricane of 1938 dwarfed that of the Chicago Fire, the San Francisco Earthquake, and the Mississippi floods of 1927, making the storm the worst natural disaster in U.S. history. Now, R.A. Scotti tells the story.

Awesome!

I lost my great grandmother in this storm. She was one of the casualties from Island Park. I look for stories from folks from that location. I know she spent some time on her roof, but little else. I myself spent my summers in Saunderstown and hence am quite familiar with so many of the places mentioned in this book.

Sudden Sea

R.A.Scotti's account of the New England Hurricane of 1938 is masterfully written, placing the reader side by side with those who survived and those who perished with poignant, compelling descriptions of their personal bravery and sacrifice. By the end of the book, the reader is left feeling like a personal survivor of one of the most cataclysmic natural disasters in American history.
