Publisher Description
Juan Cabrillo and the Oregon crew's search for missing NASA technology leads to a globe-trotting adventure in this novel in the #1 New York Times-bestselling series.
On December 7, 1941, five brothers exploring a shaft on a small island off the coast of Washington state make an exciting discovery, only to be interrupted by news of Pearl Harbor. In the present, Cabrillo, chasing the remnants of a crashed satellite in the Argentine jungle, makes a shocking discovery of his own. His search to untangle the mystery leads him first to that small island and its secret, and then much further back, to an ancient Chinese expedition, and a curse that seems to have survived for over five hundred years. If Cabrillo’s team is successful in its quest, the reward could be incalculable. If not...the only reward is death.
PUBLISHERS WEEKLY
In the winning seventh entry in the Oregon Files nautical adventure series from bestseller Cussler and Du Brul (after Corsair), Juan Cabrillo, the heroic skipper of the Oregon, a state-of-the-art warship disguised as a tramp steamer, faces a multitude of difficulties and challenges. A fabulous pirate treasure may lie at the bottom of a deep well on Pine Island in Washington State. In Argentina, a junta of generals has seized power and turned the country into a police state with designs on the rest of South America. The discovery of the remains of a WWII-era blimp in the Argentine jungle ups the ante. At the bottom of the sea off Antarctica, where the Argentines have opened a secret oil field, lies a huge, ancient Chinese vessel, which could help the Chinese, who are in league with the Argentines, in any legal claim to Antarctic territory. The action seesaws from subtropical jungles to the bitter cold of the Antarctic as Juan leads his band of intrepid scientist warriors into battle against a host of nefarious enemies. A cliffhanger ending will leave fans panting for more.
Customer Reviews
Good
I thought the book was a really good book, but maybe not as good as a couple of others in this awesome series of books.
A Ripping Yarn!
While Cussler may not be a great author in the literary sense, his greatness resides in his ability to come up with scenarios that are intriguing and believable. His descriptions of dramatic action are taut and exciting enough to overcome any stylistic deficiencies most of the time, including this story. A very entertaining and satisfying read!
The Silent Sea
It has been a long time since I have read a book. I have been enjoying Clive Cussler's books as audio books for some time. I purchased this book intending it to be audio but made a mistake that has turned into a huge enjoyment. The "Silent Sea" has brought me back to the enjoyment of reading. I could hardly turn off my iPad to do anything because I couldn't wait to read the next suspenseful page. I highly recommend this and all of Clive Cussler's books. And I encourage reading!
