Publisher Description

Drawing strength from Tina Turner's life story, Searching for Tina Turner is Lena's struggle to find herself after 25 years of being a wife and mother.

On the surface, Lena Spencer appears to have it all. She and her wealthy husband Randall have two wonderful children, and they live a life of luxury. In reality, however, Lena finds that happiness is elusive. Randall is emotionally distant, her son has developed a drug habit, and her daughter is disgusted by her mother's "overbearing behavior." When Randall decides that he's had enough of marriage counseling, he offers his wife an ultimatum: "Be grateful for all I've done for you or leave." Lena, realizing that money can't solve her problems and that her husband is no longer the man she married, decides to choose the latter.

Heavy...maybe too heavy

I liked the book for it's narratives of the French countryside, the colorful sub-characters and the determination of the star character but the book was very heavy all the way through. I wonder if the author meant for it to be that way, so perhaps as readers we could relate Better to the pain. It was overkill however and the only true spark the star was able to glean from her destroyed life was in the arms of yet another man. I wanted Lena to truly find herself and gain some emotional gusto! She just kept recycling that weight over and over passing it from one person in her life to the next. She left, but she never won. She searched for Tina but never truly found her, because in all she endures she is still absent sitting on the sidelines of life waiting for the moment to jump in. In a nutshell she never solved her problem and this made the novel feel incomplete. I suggest a final chapter or an Epilouge.
