Sloan and Cherry. Cherry and Sloan. They met only a few days before masked men with machetes attacked the summer camp where they worked, a massacre that left the rest of their fellow counselors dead. Now, months later, the two are inseparable, their traumatic experience bonding them in ways no one else can understand.
But as new evidence comes to light and Sloan learns more about the motives behind the ritual killing that brought them together, she begins to suspect that her girlfriend may be more than just a survivor—she may actually have been a part of it. Cherry tries to reassure her, but Sloan only becomes more distraught. Is this gaslighting or reality? Is Cherry a victim or a perpetrator? Is Sloan confused, or is she seeing things clearly for the very first time? Against all odds, Sloan survived that hot summer night. But will she survive what comes next?
PUBLISHERS WEEKLY
Following a summer camp massacre perpetrated by a mysterious group of animal-masked, machete-wielding assailants, teenagers Sloan and Cherry, the event's sole survivors, have become inseparable. Moreover, their shared trauma deepens their romantic relationship into a mutually codependent dynamic as the two struggle to adjust to life after the incident. But when one of the masked murderers is taken into custody, Sloan uncovers disturbing facts about the circumstances surrounding the events at Camp Money Springs that lead her to suspect Cherry of knowing more about the tragedy than she's been letting on. Ominous motives, misremembered events, and emotional manipulation abound as Sloan works to uncover the truth behind the killings—and her entire relationship with Cherry. Leisurely pacing dampens somewhat straightforward twists; nevertheless, the teens' relationship develops via cinematic prose, giving it space to be complicated and messy in a way that makes it compelling to watch unfold. Dugan (Melt with You) pays homage to classic slasher flicks in this enthralling departure, a solid addition to the camp horror genre that boasts urgent mystery and queer romance alongside its psychological thriller foundation. Sloan and Cherry read as white. Ages 14–up.

I didnt like the ending
I am a fan of horror and thriller novels. This particular tale started off so well but toward the middle I began to lose interest. I’m not one to bail on a book unless I hate it. So, I don’t hate this story but I’m not a fan of the ending. Sloan and Cherry both suffered a trauma. It seems like Sloan was the only one who suffered a mental break. That break caused her to spiral. She became obsessed with the idea of not only Cherry being apart of the massacre but her adoptive parents who abandoned her having a role in it. I thought that she was going to get the closure that she needed or maybe a big stand off. Instead, she spiraled into madness and did the unthinkable. This book is easy to read and worth 3 stars to me.
