Publisher Description

“These are remarkable and poignant stories that need to be told.” —Ken Burns

More than six million people watch Bob Dotson’s Emmy award-winning segment, American Story, on NBC’s Today Show. For the last four decades, Dotson has traveled the country searching out inspiring individuals who quietly perform everyday miracles. In the process, he has become the treasured cartographer of America’s heart and soul.

Today’s news is overwhelmingly grim; it’s also told by journalists who travel in herds as they trail politicians and camp out at big stories. In American Story, Dotson shines a light on America’s neglected corners, introducing readers to the ordinary Americans who have learned to fix what really matters.

What a great read! I thoroughly enjoyed reading this well presented collection of treasures about everyday people. The author brought each character to life immediately and didn't leave you wondering if you missed anything. Some very heartwarming evenings to be had while reading these stories. You will enjoy.

Bob Dotson Brings Hope to All Americans

No matter ones beliefs, heritage, background -- no matter who you are -- you will find a sense of hope and a sense of renewed optimism for this special country we call home.

America is a nation of states woven together like a tapestry of diverse colors, shapes and sizes -- much like it's people -- who come together to create one. We are one voice of strength and a spirit of resilience that shines brighter with each passing generation.

...It is all of us -- not just film and TV stars who dominate the air waves -- but all of us who make America great. Many of us who are hidden behind the shadows, or found in the farthest corners of this great nation, are the ones who create an American identity and greatness.

Bob Dotson's 40 years of service to this nation as a National Corespondent on the Today Show finds and shares with us a goldmine of truth and lessens learned as he searched each day to find these average, yet extraordinary Americans.

This book gives every reader a behind the scenes, at times gripping, opportunity to join Bob on his journey to uncover, as he puts it, "ordinary people doing extraordinary things."
