Publisher Description
The bestselling author of Somebody's Daughter and Cemetery Girl, “one of the brightest and best crime fiction writers of our time” (Suspense Magazine) delivers a pulse-pounding thriller about a man who is haunted by a face from his past...
When Nick Hansen sees the young woman at the grocery store, his heart stops. She’s the spitting image of his college girlfriend, Marissa Minor, who died in a campus house fire twenty years earlier. But when Nick tries to speak to her, she acts skittish and rushes off.
The next morning the police arrive at Nick’s house and show him a photo of the woman from the store. She’s been found dead, murdered in a local motel, with Nick’s name and address on a piece of paper in her pocket.
Convinced there's a connection between the two women, Nick enlists the help of his college friend Laurel Davidson to investigate the events leading up to the night of Marissa’s death. But the young woman’s murder is only the beginning...and the truths Nick uncovers may make him wish he never doubted the lies.
PUBLISHERS WEEKLY
At the start of this satisfying thriller set in a small Ohio college town from Bell (The Forgotten Girl), housing authority caseworker Nick Hansen spots a young woman in a grocery store who bears a startling resemblance to Marissa Minor, the love of his life, who died 20 years earlier at age 20 in a house fire. When Nick approaches her, she flees. The next day the police question him. The woman Nick saw, 20-year-old Emily Joy Russell, has been murdered, and in her pocket was a paper with his name and address on it. In the course of trying to find out about Emily and why she had been looking for him, Nick uncovers heartbreaking crimes from the past. Insights provided by a number of people close to him, including his ex-wife, Gina, force Nick to reevaluate his relationship with Marissa. Distinctive characters and a smartly crafted plot lift this well above the genre average. Author tour.

Great story
Keeps you wanting more.
SO, SO GOOD!! You'll be glad you read it!!!
I loved this book!! When I saw it offered on Net Galley, I jumped on it right away. I loved Cemetery Girl and knew this would be a decent read. I was wrong. It was a great read! There are so many subplots and secrets going on here that I just sped through this book.
One sighting of a girl who looks like Nick's college sweetheart turns everything in his life upside down, current and past. Some are good things, some are not. A crime committed 20 years ago is reopened and also helps a family find their son who has been missing for 20 years. I just loved how all the pieces of the puzzle came together in this book!
Thanks to Penguin/NAL for the free entertainment in exchange for an honest review. I definitely recommend this book!
Annoying Protagonist
OMG—Half the book describes a 40 year old man miserable because his college girl friend from 20 years ago broke up with him…on and on and on
