Publisher Description
Zana Briski, Academy Award-winning director of Born into Brothels, now introduces us to another community we too often ignore and fear: Insects. Guided by dreams of a praying mantis, Zana takes us on her nine-year, global odyssey to find insects, from Namibia to Madagascar to Malaysia to the Amazon.
With infectious awe and humor, Zana greets each insect as a new friend to be respected and cherished. She talks to them, listens to them, strokes their antennae and takes their portraits; haunting, mesmerizing close-ups that oblige us to reconsider our aversion to these fascinating creatures. In revealing their unique personalities, Zana reminds us, "bugs are people too."
Includes a three-minute introductory film trailer with music by Peter Gabriel.

Magical!
Charming, warm and wise, with gorgeous photographs, videos and sound, this book creates a unique experience that celebrates the beauty of the insect life about us. This is life we too often dismiss and denigrate but, as Zana shows, it is truly magnificent and fully worthy of our reverence.
I'm bugging out over this! Just stunning. A must have!
Finally, a tribute that can honor the tiniest amongst us! Seeing every little motion and intricate, sheeny, luminescent feature of these gorgeous bug faces reminds me even more of all of the magic just waiting to be rediscovered when we take a deeper, closer look into what is around us. A reverence indeed.
I'm also digging the music accompaniments and the transition from bug to bug. It's a landscape-oriented book, and there's a really great sample to preview. I'm only a few chapters in so far, but I'm excited to see the rest. I can't wait to show my friends. Amazing job on this, Zana Briski.
