The rambling eighth Black Jewels epic fantasy (after 2009 s The Shadow Queen) doesn t glow as brightly as earlier installments, but faithful fans will cheer to find Lady Cassidy at last on track to a happy ending. Plain jane Cassie, a Rose-jeweled queen, lost her Bhak court to prettier but bratty Lady Kermilla. She s now recovered from the loss and ready to restore her new land of Shalador to prosperity. When Lady Kermilla pays an unwelcome visit, Warlord Prince Theran Grayhaven, pledged to Cassie s service, starts making eyes at their guest. Fearing another betrayal, Cassie flees to Eyota, but her heart remains with Grayhaven gardener Jared Blaed. Bishop s dialogue-heavy prose, ornate magical politics, large cast, and complex caste system bog down the narrative flow, and even the introductory guides will do little to enlighten new readers, leaving this one strictly for the fans.

Excellent continuation of the Black Jewels saga.
The way Anne writes is a delight. Mixing just the right amount of humor and seriousness. And the way she deals with characters who aren't nearly as powerful as the core characters from the original trilogy is wonderful, she doesn't down play the characters, she makes them think more, makes them even more personal. I'd recommend to anyone pick up the book, it'll make you curious and want to read her others in the Black Jewels saga.
Wonderful
Love Anne Bishop one of my top Authors. This is a wonderful story. She makes you fall in love with the characters. Plus, the fav's Janelle and her court. Just give this a shot.
Not as good as original saga
I have been a fan of the series since the first book. Though the original characters make appearances, I feel that this new series does not have the same magic. It is a good book, and would recommend it for people very familiar with the characters and backstory. If you are not, overlook this book.
