Publisher Description
A valuable artifact has been stolen from an isolated monastery, and Tallis will have trouble finding it when the temple elder won't tell him what it is.
The monks have good reason to be secretive, given the centuries of religious persecution after the fall of the Emperor who represented their gods. That's to say nothing of the cult leader enchanting disciples in the next town over, or of the boy they keep hidden underground while they prepare him to be the new Emperor. Tallis, an orphan himself, feels an instant connection with Brannon, the young boy who can channel the power of the gods but is deeply resentful of the monks who have imprisoned him to keep him safe. Tallis soon finds himself struggling to unravel not only a theft, but the murder of the last Emperor, which fractured the world a thousand years before.

Easily to get hooked up on!
I love, love, love this book. It's very rich in environment, history, plot, & action! It was so easy and fun to get roped in this world without knowing anything about temples and etc.
I also love that the characters, pro or anti or in between are so richly written I can only hate few of them but see others in the light of understanding where they are standing.
MUST READ for readers looking for a new adventure about magic, mystery, OH AND DRAGONS.
Completely Consuming!
I bought this book in August, already familiar with the power of this author’s narrative abilities and carefully stored it away for the depressing days of Winter. Well we’re in the worst part of February and though I felt like doing nothing but lying around listlessly I decided to start the book. It completely turned my energy levels around, sucking me into the world of the story effortlessly and now that I’ve finished the book I feel a lot better in the way only a great story can achieve!
The main characters are all extremely engaging, each with their own personalities and view points. Their dynamics with each other are all amazing! The world is complex while still easily understandable with no massive chunks of exposition slowing down the narrative. The moments of intense action are balanced by quiet moments of character building. By the end of this book you’ll care about the fate of every character and fascinated by the world you’ve found yourself in!
I love a good deal but this book is priced way too low for the amount of enjoyment I’ve gotten from it so far and since it’s the beginning of a series I’m eager for more of it!
