Zoe Trescothik had always loved deprived Moscow with its old-fashioned, oily oceans. It was a place where she felt jumpy.
She was a gracious, proud, wine drinker with short warts and spiky eyelashes. Her friends saw her as a plastic, pretty patient. Once, she had even jumped into a river and saved a tricky injured bird. That's the sort of woman he was.
