Publisher Description

Now available in paperback, Hungry is an uplifting memoir with a universal message about body image, beauty, and self-confidence, and an inspiring, cautionary tale for women of all ages.

At fourteen, I was a regular junior high school student in Clinton, Mississippi, when a modeling scout told me: You could be a supermodel...but you'll have to lose a little weight.

For glamour, fame, and escape, I lost seventy pounds.

This is a photo of me at sixteen, when I signed a big modeling contract, moved to New York City, and started traveling around the world.

It is also when I developed a ferocious case of anorexia and exercise bulimia.

Until I decided enough was enough—I wanted to live.

And so I ate. And ate.

Offering a behind-the-scenes peek into the modeling industry, as well as a trenchant look at our weight-obsessed culture, Hungry is an inspiring and cautionary tale that will resonate with anyone who has battled society’s small-minded definitions of beauty.

This is me now, the leading plus-size model in America.

A must read for your daughters, your girlfriends, & you

I'm 5'9", 143 pounds and for most of my teens/young adult life, I have spent an inordinate amount of time in front of the mirror... Picking out every dimple, stretch mark, freckle, wrinkle or vein on my body. (Those magnifying mirrors are my worst enemy to say the least.) But most of all - I have loathed my hips. Im a size 8. And in my area of the world where size 2 reigns, that makes me The Big Girl. Maybe that sounds crazy? But... It is what the little voice in my head has told me for years.
What Crystal has done in this book has given me permission to actually love my hips. To really love them, not just for a moment or two. To feel Beautiful. Sexy. Feminine. Desirable. Confident. Womanly. Almost goddess- like. We women hold such power and strength in who we are and we give that away when we let others (and ourselves) tell us we aren't worthy of being loved.
She has delivered an honest, genuine and loving message about learning to love yourself from within first... And then watch the beauty radiate outward from there. I love what she has done here- she makes me feel beautiful- size 8 and all.
I'm going to buy a copy of this book for all my girlfriends, my mom and my coworkers- for we all spend way too much time hating our bodies. We are ALL beautiful.
Kudos to you Crystal- your beauty is magnificent- inside and out.
