Sexy romantic comedy

The Last First Date was a great romantic comedy by one of my favorite authors. Ms. Wells has never disappointed me seeing as her specialty is writing short, sexy romances with characters who act maturely, confident, funny and utterly lovable. If that’s what you’re after, Maggie Wells is the author to meet those needs.

I immediately loved Detective Lang Sheppard. He was a gentleman, playful, charming, funny…the whole package (and he obviously adored his grandmother to put up with her horrible matchmaking skills). It wasn’t difficult to fall for the guy and empathize with his dating fiascos.

Jessica was an equally sweet heroine. She was smart enough to be weary of the stranger trying to help her, a bit flummoxed that someone as handsome as him was something of a serial dater. Her nicknames for Lang were cute, but the ones for his ditzy date were even funnier. I also liked that she wasn’t glammed up when they first met. It made the attraction that much sweeter that he was able to look past her disheveled state.

As a couple, they were very well suited for one another. She had a great sense of humor when she let it show, they were able to tease, joke around and laugh together. They seemed to be good listeners as well as the conversation flowed and they bared some of their baggage. Lang surprised me with his up front admission that he wasn’t in the market for flings, but he wanted to find The One and settle down. Jessica could appreciate the honesty of that admission and decide whether she wanted to see where their connection would take them. They moved very quickly for a couple of strangers, but they both felt the magic of New Year’s Eve, new beginnings and lust in the air, so I was rooting for them to get together. I loved the slow burn from a chaste kiss to a steamy kiss to fooling around in the cop car to the satisfying love scene at the end. The Stud definitely earned that nickname.
