Hermit crabs make for an unusual pet but people who have decided to become hermit crab owners quickly discover that these pets are interesting and easy to care for. The personality of a pet crab is curious and they have unique characteristics which make for low maintenance.

Hermit crabs are not true crabs as they have a smaller and softer abdomen which they protect by living inside an empty snail shell. As they grow they will find larger shells in which to dwell. As a hermit crab owner you will need to provide these shells so that they will have a new home to move into.
