Plzzz Mz. Hampton give me more of Jaylin
After reading all 6 books
I promised to purchase and read all 6 books before judging or writing a review....I have now done so and ready to give my opinion.
The characters were indeed great however, it was the writing style that I couldn't get past. I was hoping that after each book it would improve or change with the next one- but it didn't. It didn't fit the audience or the characters..... For "Scorpio" to be face to face with all nine inches and ready to get down (on many occasions)..... It was annoying to me to hear her say it was "delightful".....or when expressing a characters point the phrase "I in no way intended"... Etc... Was very repetitive. Sometimes the flow just didn't go together. No, I am not saying that as black people we can't talk proper or that Ebonics has to be used but it does need to fit your audience and be realistic. Sometimes I felt as though I was listening to my older auntie trying to sound "hip" or "cool" when saying certain things or throwing around designer names.
To me, that was disappointing and something I was looking forward to seeing change just as much as what was going to happen next with the characters.
I will say, thanks to Brenda Hampton for truthfully describing women like "Scorpio" who will interfere with a marriage and settle for never being #1... As well as doing justice for all women by making sure that "Nokea" stayed strong with an excellent message at the end.
Overall, the series was a good read.
