I received an ARC in exchange for a honest review.
This was my first Rebecca Brooks novel and it won't be my last! I really enjoyed this novel of second chances in life, love, and opportunities.
Opportunities have always come easily for Samantha Kane. She has lived a life full of love and opportunities. Samantha worked hard to become the head of Kane Enterprises, but never really wanted to be the one in charge--until her dad died. At work, she's considered to be anything but "nice. Kane Enterprises has been trying to get Austin to sell them his property so they can turn Gold Mountain into a world class ski resort--third largest in the world. He refuses, so Samantha heads to the mountains to deal with Mr. Reede herself.
Austin Reede had the kind of childhood he'd rather forget. His dad regularly beat his mom. At 18yrs old, Austin had hopes of going to the Olympics. His mom had never seen him ski before, so Austin came home to pick her up so that she could finally see him ski. Austin's dad thought he was taking her away from the abuse, so came after Austin with a hammer crushing his knee and his chances to become an Olympian. After rehab, Austin escapes to Gold Mountain to start over.
Austin and Sam meet on the mountain and find their attraction so strong, they can't seem to stop thinking about each other. Their friendship quickly turns into something more, until Austin realizes who Sam actually is. Samantha didn't intend to lie about who she really was, but started falling for Austin and knew he wouldn't even talk to her if he knew who she really was. So as not to ruin the ending.....let me just say I LOVED the Epilogue. It brought the story full circle and gave Sam and Austin their HEA. I highly recommend this novel! It was very well written, sad, but happy at the same time.
